Gas is used everywhere in the world and if a country has a lot of natural oil, they could get very rich of it. For example Saudi Arabia is one of the richest countries in the world. These countries are able to generate this wealth through trade. When I put gas in my car a couple of days ago, that gas could be coming from anywhere.
Canada's dollar is very tied to gas prices, in the dip in prices a couple of years ago, Canada's dollar has suffered greatly. Gas helps Canada to strengthen it's currency.
