He discovered the neutron in 1932. Due to his discovery he helped contribute to modern science as, after a few years many scientists throughout the world were studying the properties and data of the particle. It was found that several elements, when struck by neutrons, experience a fission. A type of nuclear reaction that occurs when the nucleus of a specific element is split into two closely equal tinier fragments. During this reaction each fissioned nucleus gives off extra free neutrons, as well as those bound to the fission fragments.
