This case concerned the freedom of Dred Scott because he was a slave in Missouri then moved to the Louisiana Territory and claimed to be a free man. The two main parties in this case were Dred Scott and John F. A. Sanford. The case was fought in Washington DC. One cause of this was the freeing of slaves in certain states but not all due to the end of the civil war and one effect of this case was the continuation of abolishing slavery.
