1. What is it?
This act banned discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin. Additionally, it bans unfair voter registration requirements, racial segregation in schools, work, and public facilities.

2. When did it happen?
Effective July 2nd, 1964

3. Who was involved?
- John F. Kennedy- He proposed the bill but it was filibustered in the Senate. He then died before progress could be made.
- Lyndon B. Johnson- After the death of JFK, Johnson was able to get the act passed.

4. Where did it happen?
Washington DC

5. One major cause
The March on Washington was a major cause of the Civil Rights Act of 1964. The large number of people that marched showed the government that they had to do something to advance civil rights. For this reason, JFK proposed the bill and Johnson eventually got it passed.

6. One major effect
The Civil Rights Act of 1964 did not accomplish all of the goals of civil rights activists, so protests continued to occur. The continuation of the movement would lead to the creation of the Voting Rights Act of 1965.
