The Three Gorges Dam is over 7,000 feet long and located along the Yangtze River. Its construction began in 1994 under the rule of Jiang Zemin. This was to date the largest engineering project of China and was extremely expensive. The dam contributed to electricity generation and flooding control, but critics cited habitat destruction and displacement of people is the largest worries.
