The purpose of the Declaration of Independence was to explain to foreign nations why the colonies separated themselves from Great Britain. The Revolutionary War , however, was a conflict between Great Britain and the Thirteen Colonies, which at the time declared independence as the United States. It spanned from the years 1775-1783. Right when the Revolutionary War began, several major battles took place.
