1 gen 1876 anni - "The things we thought that we should do"
Descrizione:
The things we thought that we should do
We other things have done
But those peculiar industries
Have never been begun -
The Lands we thought that we should seek -
When large enough to run -
By Speculation ceded
To Speculation's son -
The Heaven in which we hoped to pause
When discipline was done -
Untenable to Logic
But possibly the one -
This poem about regret begets an intriguing connection between logic, industry, heaven and discipline. Though "Heaven" is "Untenable to Logic," it still follows "discipline," which is a logical, industrious pursuit. Perhaps the factories in "Where bells no more affright the morn - " are not so distant from heaven after all.
