This was caused because the norm of racial segregation in public schools, as the schools were used to having their schools segregated. However, the Brown v Board of Education also caused this, as it gave the Little Rock Nine the right to enter the previously all white school.

One major effect of the Little Rock Nine was Cooper v Aaron, a Supreme Court case which decided that the Arkansas School Board was not allowed to delay the desegregation of their schools for 30 months.
