The National Language Act and the NEP introduced in 1963 and 1971 respectively caused many non-bumiputeras to migrate overseas because they see these policies as examples of institutionalised racism in the country and not as efforts to reconstruct society through poverty eradication and cultivating a sense of national identity (Faridah & Quayum, 2003)._____________________
