Over 100 Youth Council members march from 15th to 16th Street along with Father Groppi. Counter demonstrators are met on the south side, being held back by police officers. The group ends at the Kosciuszko picnic area where the marchers gather and Father Groppi says a few powerful words. The police struggled to hold the 5,000 counter-demonstrators back before Groppi started leading the Youth Council back to the north side. They were bombarded with rocks and other garbage thrown by counter-demonstrators as television reporters recorded the “white riot” as Groppi described it.
