Barack Obama’s economic policies were an attempt to make the United States of America into a less capitalistic society and give them a more reasonable safety net. There were many policies but the biggest changes were tax hikes (especially for the rich) and implementation of Obamacare, america's first major attempt at making healthcare less privatized and instead making it a social program. The obama administration marked an extreme shift to the left for the united states. Many of the policies implemented are similar to policy in democratic socialist countries like sweden and norway, if at a smaller scale. The shift to the left for the Usa is even more crucial globally, the united states is well known for being very capitalist and because of the very successful and having that “bastion” of right wing economics change to a more moderate left wing state was a major change in global society.
