The Diet of Worms was an assembly of the Holy Roman Empire held in Worms, Germany. It was called due to Luther's 95 Theses. He was called in for questioning and always found a way to avoid the questions. Luther ran away, and the Diet remained divided. Many of the rulers left and finally Charles V passed the Edict of Worms, which banned Luther's writings and declared him a heretic and an enemy of state.
