In 1929 the stock market crashed, which then brought on the the Great Depression to Canada and the rest of the world. In Canada millions of people were hungry, homeless and unemployed. In 1929 Canada's GNP was 6.1 billion and by 1933 it had dropped by half at 3.5 billion.
