Bacon's Rebellion was an armed indentured servant rebellion against the rule of Governor William Berkeley. Berkeley refused to take action on Native American raids on British settlements and denied requests to pursue westward expansion, so the settlers revolted. Bacon's Rebellion was the first rebellion in the American colonies and became the turning point from indentured servitude into slavery.
