It established a Congress dominated by state legislatures that appointed its members. The Articles of Confederation didn’t give much or any power at all to the federal government. They could not levy taxes, regulate national commerce, and they could sign treaties but could never enforce them.
Causes
Congress needed to create a way to establish a national government after declaring independence from Great Britain.
Impact
This helped lead to the drafting of the Constitution which has been used as the basis for the American government.
