15 giug 1767 anni - Townshend Acts

Descrizione:

In 1767, Parliament passed the Townshend Acts, named after Charles Townshend, a British royal treasurer. The acts placed taxes on tea, glass, paper, lead, and paint. These were all goods that the colonies could only buy from Britain. Britain would use the money collected from the Townshend Acts to pay the colonial governors and judges for their work. Before the acts, these officials had been paid by the colonial assemblies. By paying officials directly, the British government would gain control over the day-to-day running of the colonies.
