722 B.C was important, but a sad, year in the history of Israel. That was not positive for the people that lived there since the Assyrians were really brutal rulers. Some of the people that lived there, Israelites, were able to avoid being ruled by the Assyrians by escaping to the South of Judah. The fight over Israel, Israelites defending themselves and the Assyrians trying to take other took almost three years and was started by Shalmaneser V. However when the Assyrians finally took other after a three-year-old fight, Sargon II was the leader.
