1 gen 1378 anni - Great Schism (1378)

Descrizione:

Cardinals, trying to remedy the situation of a French influenced Pope seated at Avignon, elected a second Pope in Rome. This split the Christian world down the middle and brought a time of uncertainty to Christendom, while the Popes and their courts were growing in extravagance and worldliness. This event is more important that the Council of Constance in 1414 because even while the schism of the Popehood was solved, the Pope’s power won out and the conciliar movement died off. (Palmer 55)
