1 gen 1456 anni - Leon Battista Alberti

Descrizione:

Leon Battista Alberti (1404-1472) was an Italian humanist author, artist, architect, poet, priest, linguist, philosopher, and cryptographer—he epitomized the “Renaissance Man.” Alberti wrote "De re aedificatoria" (On the Art of Building), a classic architectural treatise, between 1443 and 1452. It was the first theoretical book on the subject written in the Italian Renaissance, and became the first printed book on architecture.

Another of his notable contributions is the Santa Maria Novella (1456) in Florence. The church, built on the site of the 9th-century oratory of Santa Maria delle Vigne, was the first great basilica in Florence, and is the city's principal Dominican church.

Alberti attempted to bring the ideals of humanist architecture, proportion and classically inspired detailing to bear on the design, while also creating harmony with the already existing medieval part of the façade.
