The Hartford Convention was a group of federalists who met with a plan to end the war. They claimed that the war was fought for land and the spread of slavery. They wanted an end to the 3/5 Compromise, a new requirement for a 2/3 majority in Congress to declare war, removal of taxes on exports, ban of all embargos lasting more than 60 days, one-term presidents, and presidents being forbidden from being from the same state as the last one (i.e. Jefferson & Madison). New York, New England, & New Hampshire planned to secede if these demands were not met.

This convention led to the fall of the Federalist party due to the demands being seen as extreme, especially since the war ended before these demands and claims were made.
