The euro was first established in 1992 in the Maastricht Treaty. The treaty were some of the first steps taken to bring together a unified European community. The euro was then first officially adopted by Madrid in 1995. It made its way to England January 1, 1999. The euro is used by 19 members of the 28 countries in the European Union.
