A massive air force attack by the Japanese on US navy ships in Pearl Harbour. However, the American aircraft carriers were out on a training mission and did not get attacked. There were about 3478 American casualties and 18 ships were destroyed. All of the American casualties were civilians as there was no state of war in America prior to the attack.
