17 gen 395 anni - Julian Persecutions end, Edict of Milan restored, early Roman secularization begins

Descrizione:

After years of counsel from St Augustine of Hippo regarding the Julian Persecutions and their failure to end the conflicts between the Roman and Christian faith in the empire, Emperor Julian declares separation of state and religion throughout all Roman territories and formally ends the state policy of persecution against Christians that began early throughout his regency.

The consequence of this declaration is the first attempt in Roman history to secularize the state, which would earn Julian the moniker "Apostate" from both the Roman and Christian priesthoods.
