Vinod Bihari Mahto was a lawyer who fought cases for the labourers and the peasants. He was the founder of Shivaji Samaj. He along with Shibu would soon form the JMM. During that period the many women in the mahto society would be left by their husbands without any support, who would then remarry. Vinod had been fighting this evil but his pacifist techniques and litigations had no effects. Shibu took up this work and using the techniques of physical intimidation was able to stop this practice. Shibu's Sonat Santhali Samaj was merged with Shivaji samaj to form the JMM IN 1972.
