13 marzo 1000 anni - Leif Erikson lands in Vinland
Descrizione:
Going off the information he received from Bjarni Herjólfsson, the man who discovered the land, Viking explorer Leif Erikson took a crew of 35 and found land west of Greenland, named Vinland. They established a settlement on a large island (modern-day Newfoundland) and explored further, getting as far as modern-day New Brunswick (mainland North America). This marked the first time a European set foot on the North American mainland.
