1 gen 1774 anni - Intolerable Acts

Descrizione:

A series of four acts passed to punish Massachusetts for the Boston Tea Party. They consisted of the following:
1) Boston Port Act: Closed Boston Harbor until all the tea had been paid for. Colonists objected that only a few had done this, so not all Bostonians should have to pay.
2) Massachusetts Governing Act: Almost all positions in the government were to be appointed by the governor, king, or Parliament. Limited town meetings to one a year. Colonists in other areas worried they could be next.
3) Administration of Justice Act: Allowed the governor to hold trials of accused Royal officers in Great Britain.
4) Quartering Act: Forced civilians from all colonies to feed, bed, and clothe British soldiers who would in turn "protect" (spy on) them.

Called the Coercive Acts in Great Britain, these acts caused the colonists to feel their rights were being infringed upon. The Bostonians were especially furious at the Quartering Act, as they were essentially under direct rule of the British Empire due to all the soldiers in the city. The other colonies began to worry that they might be next, so they planned to send representatives to convene to decide the best course of action, leading to the First Continental Congress session.
