Abstract:
This paper represents a return of experience about the use and design of an external grader for a computer science MOOC. We introduce INGInious, an automatic grader for both onsite students and students from the edX platform. Then, we explore both the practical and technical approach of its use. We see that providing good feedback is a key element to learning, and that it must be as detailed as possible, but also, because of theoretical limits, transparent. Then we see how a good external grader must be designed, that is, generic, safe and reliable.
