The first hydrogen bomb was constructed by the United States. The thought of having a new nuclear weapon angered the Soviet Union which created an arms race between the U.S. and the Soviet Union. This made the Soviet Union develop their very own H-Bomb to prove that they are just as advanced.

The development of the H-Bomb is most deeply connected to the Deterrence concept, during the Arms Race between both nations, the U.S. tried everything in order to be more advanced in comparison to the Soviet Union.
