J.J. Thomson, Held experiments with Cathode rays. He discovered electrons by observing electron rays passing through a cathode ray, which responded to magnetism. Because of this magnetic interaction, he was able to identify that the mass of the electrons were less than an atom’s, meaning the electron was smaller than an atom.
