Massacre of St. Bartholomew's Day, massacre of French Protestantsin was plotted by Catherine de Médicis and carried out by Roman Catholic nobles and other citizens. An estimated 3,000 French Protestants were killed in Paris, and as many as 70,000 in all of France. The massacre of Saint Bartholomew's Day marked the resumption of religious civil war in France.
