3 magg 1765 anni - The Quartering Act

Descrizione:

This required the colonies to house British soldiers in barracks provided by the colonies. Colonists needed to be protected against native or foreign enemies, so troops were stationed in America. To cut costs to the British The Quartering Act required colonists pay for barracks, food, and other supplies for troops. If barracks were not available, colonists were required to keep soldiers in their own home. Colonists feared a standing army might become violent and take over their colony. They also believed the act violated their right to not have a standing army during peacetime. Some colonies refused to provide food and supplies to the soldiers. Other colonies refused to allow the ships carrying soldiers to enter the docks.
