Berlin's East and West decided to cooperate as a country which was very limited due to the Berlin Wall so they decided to demolish the wall. This regained more freedom to to Berlin's citizens.

This demolition best relates to the concept, détente it physically reduces tension between Berlin's West and East by eliminating their greatest separation.
