Women have changed society in many ways. On some occasions they have been put in jail or even killed for doing so. Aung San Suu Kyi is a Burmese politician, diplomat, author and Nobel Peace Prize laureate. She is the leader of the National League for Democracy and a amazing, inspiring woman. She made a difference in a country called Burma it has been under military rule for the last seventy years. Being under a military rule means that nobody can criticize the military because if you did you would be sent to prison of even be given a death sentence. However, a woman called Aung San Suu Kyi was determined to change it. So she ran in the 1990 free election. Which was the first free election in thirty years. Aung San Suu Kyi won 80% of the votes, but since the military expected to win, they declared that the election was invalid and Aung San was under house arrest for 15 years. Even under house arrest, she still continued to campaign for a democratic election. So that everybody could have right to vote. In 2012, she finally got her wish. The government opened up and people are holding a political rally. Aung San was now allowed to run for an election. On polling day, Aung San had huge success and won the election which caused Burma to become a democracy.
