1 gen 1967 anni - Sexual Offenses Act of 1967

Descrizione:

A number of Acts of Parliament in this period reflected the changing social climate. An example is the 1967 Sexual Offences Act, which legalized homosexuality between men over 21. Homosexuality had been criminalized for over 400 years by the Buggery Act of 1553. The Sexual Offences Act offered partial discrimination, however. The age of consent between men and women was 16, whereas for men is was 21. The act did not extend to the armed forces or the merchant navy. The act also did not apply to Scotland, Northern Ireland or to the Channel Islands, it only applied to England and Wales. A few LGBT works published during this time includes Lord Dismiss Us which was published in 1967, I Want What I Want published in 1966, and Fire from Heaven published in 1969. Within the next few years, Britain would also have its first Pride parade. Although the act allowed for visibility, there were still many obstacles those within the LBGT faced (including homosexuality being classified as a mental disorder, and many other discriminatory laws).
