What was the reaction to individual differences and special needs?
Special needs and differences have always been something I love and embrace. In kindergarten, I sat next to a boy from Korea who spoke no English. I went to the Korean dry cleaners with my mom and learned Korean for my new friend. Throughout elementary school, I was always assigned a seat next to a boy who had Down's syndrome or a boy who was deaf. These differences and special needs have always had a special place in my heart and in my life. That is why I became a PARA for special education students, and it has helped me want to be a more sensitive and caring teacher.
