Marco Polo along with his father and uncle set sail to China where their mission was the recruit 100 priest for Kublai Khan on their way to China. But by the time they left in 1271 they left with only two and those two quickly turned back the second they got an idea of the tough journey ahead of them. Once they reached China Polo tried to gain as much knowledge on the way of life as possible, spending 23 years of his own life there. Polo was on Khan's good side and was granted a lot of access in the kingdom and he was able to use this to learn and write everything he saw later bringing it back to Venice.
