11 gen 1890 anni - Pink Map Compromise

Descrizione:

Starting in 1885, the Portuguese began to land vast swaths of land in Central and South Africa owned by the British. These claims went wildly against the Berlin Conference of the same years and rose tension between the two countries.

In 1890, a deal was struck between the two to cool tensions and repair relations. The Portuguese would end all claims to British territory in Africa and in exchange, would receive land equivelant to the Caprivi Strip, connecting Portuguese East and West Africa via the Zambezi River. The Trade also established the Zambezi River as a neutral waterway between the two.
