During the 1940's the green screen was invented and allowed the film makers to have actors at in front of a plain coloured wall or screen typically green, and allowed them to filter out the green to add some sort of background giving the illusion that the actors are in a different location this was a lengthy process but with todays technology it is easily done and is used in most if not all films in many different ways for example in the hobbit movies sir Ian Mckellon had to act in front of a green screen so he ould be added in easily with the short hobbits. most films today rely on green sreans whih is why they are so impotant.
