In the election of 1844, Polk Vs. Clay; Polk promised to not only annex Texas but also Oregon territory. He also stated that he would buy California from Mexico. But even before he took office, president Tyler sent an annex resolution to Congress in February. Texas was officially annexed on December 29, 1845.
