The next advancement following VHS, DVD's would start the new wave of digital film. Being more portable, durable and cheap option it was the next big platform for people to watch films from the comfort of their own homes.
As they moved away from the traditional method of using film such as was the case with VHS, DVD's importance could be argued to be high in pushing film as a whole in the direction of digital media permananlty, leaving film and tape as a thing of the past.
