The MCU started a new generation of movies with the, at the time risky idea of creating a cinematic universe with multiple characters in who will eventually in other movies meet and become a team and have solo movies all happening in parallel to each other kind of liek a comic.
This started with successful iron man and then went on Captain America, Thor and then the big team up, The Avengers. This universe for 10 years has been slowly expanding bringing new ideas and new characters and the head has plans for years to come. This started many other companies using the same idea of an expanded universe but nobody has ever done it as well and successful as the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
This universe has gone as far as having TV shows as part of the story of the universe with shows such as Agent carter, agents of SHIELD, and daredevil. This shows just how far one movie can go and the dedication of the fans is outstanding. A positive of spanning a huge story over 10 years is the fact that the fans get emotionally attached to the characters which then gives a bigger impact if something were to happen.
In many movies of today we see elements of the MCU ideas because of how much the MCU has changed movies as a whole.
