18 apr 1775 anni - Fighting at Lexington and Concord

Descrizione:

When Thomas Gage (the new governor of Massachusetts) learned that minutemen (Colonial Solders) were stockpiling weapons in Concord, he sent over 700 troops to Concord. Paul Revere and William Dawes heard about the attack plan, and rode through the night to warn the colonists of the attack (this is where the phrase "The British Are Coming" originated). Around 77 minutemen were waiting for them in the nearby town of Lexington. Both sides refused to fire, but then someone did fire. No one knows who fired the shot, but this shot started the American Revolution. Both sides started fighting, killing 8 Americans. Over in Concord, British Soldiers were entering the city. Over 400 minutemen were waiting for them, and the minutemen opened fire, killing 3 British Soldiers. The British began to run towards Boston, but around 4000 minutemen began firing at them while hiding in bushes and behind fences, killing or injuring around 300 British Soldiers. This was the final event before the beginning of the American Revolution, and was also the first event in the American Revolution.
