Epic poem retels the ten-year-long siege of the city of Ilium, or Troy by the brothers Agamemnon and Menelaus. War started by the abduction of Menelaus's wife Helen by the Trojan Prince Alexander (or Paris). The war became a battleground for the Gods themselves. Agamemnon threatens to seize invincible Achilies' slave girl. describes death of hector, Alexander's brother, at the hands of achilles. Written in elegant poetic language. The iliad is significant as it recounts the Trojan War which is a defining moment in Greek adn therefore Western culture.
