in late 1999 the media was reporting that a bug was going to cripple Telecommunications and the infrastructure. The bug was caused by the fact that old written software only used two digits to represent year information. This would mean that computers would have issues telling 2000 and 1990 apart. engenners across the world had to prepare computers so there would be only minor bugs after New Years Eve.
