The People's Party (also known as the Populist Party or the Populists) was an agrarian-populist political party in the United States. For a few years, from 1892 to 1896, it played a major role as a left-wing force in American politics.The populist party gained national attention when they supported Democratic nominee William Jennings Bryan as their presidential candidate. One of the reasons this led to a decline in the populist party is because nominating Bryan alienated the African-American populists, causing the whole party to collapse in 1908.
