15 nov 1864 anni - Sherman's March To The Sea
Descrizione:
Sherman left Atlanta burning with 62,000 troops. He split them in half and created 50 mile swath of Union soldiers, pillaging as they headed South. Supplies were scarce so Sherman sent runners ahead of the forces searching Confederate homes for supplies. To say this was unwelcome is putting it mildly.
Twenty five thousand freed african americans followed Sherman's troops. Many returned home after Sherman ordered it, but thousands remained. Worried about feeding his troops, Sherman stranded the followers by removing a floating bridge. Many african americans were killed by the confederate army who were on Sherman's heels.
