Juan de Oñate was a Spanish explorer who came up form New Spain and explored the El Paso area and gave El Paso Its name. His travels were very dangerous he did not pack enough water for his journey. So when reaching the Rio Grande River they drank lots of water. After that, they celebrated their survival with a Thanksgiving feast.
