11 nov 1629 anni - Mayflower Compact
Descrizione:
The Mayflower Compact was was an agreement that was signed between the males that were aboard the Mayflower, before it landed in Plymouth. The english settlers set up a set of rules for self-governance. They were aware that life without any rules or laws could be bad, so they created the Mayflower Contract. They needed these laws to help them develop a new colony, once they reached the mainland. 41 male colonists signed the contract, that had rules and laws saying they would rule based on majority agreement.
We still don’t know who officially wrote the Mayflower Compact, but we give credit to William Brewster. The purpose of the contract was for the people to create laws for the good of their community, and respect them, to live by the Christian faith, and to work together to create one society and work together to keep it strong. This was the first document that officially began the setup of the New World. This successful attempt at democracy played a part in the future independence from the British, and that eventually led to the United States of America.
