The Parliament is a bicameral British legislature, meaning "two chambers". It consists of two houses: the House of Lords and the House of Commons. The House of Lords represented the nobility and the House of Commons represent the people. The Parliament is the primary lawmaker in Great Britain's monarchy. The two Houses were not always joined, however. They evolved over time, mostly in response to the country's monarch.

The British Parliament shows the most similarity with the U.S. Congress. Congress is also bicameral. It contains the House of Representatives and the Senate. However, the bodies are filled with elected officials, instead of nobility or the common people. The Senate has two people per state equalling 100 people, while the House of Representatives' numbers vary by the population of a state which equals 435 people.
