Abolitionist John Brown leads a small group on a raid against a federal armory in Harpers Ferry, Virginia, in an attempt to start an armed slave revolt and destroy the institution of slavery. It showed that people were willing to die fighting to end slavery and that people were willing to kill to maintain it which ultimately resulted in war.
